In France people commonly wish a happy new year to each other by « Bonne année ! Bonne santé ! » You may also use a longer and more sophisticated wish like “ I wish you a year full of happiness and achievement.” French people exchange New Year greetings  when they meet in the street or at work. Preferably, they would call friends and family on January 1^st or, as far as the youngest, would send a text.
